Main Building Interests: Anything with Wheels, Cars and Trucks

"I will build anything with wheels", says Nick Sandone,
Nick got interested in building at nine years old with his older brother Lou. Once into his teens, Nick put regular models aside to concentrate on building radio controlled cars. Later on, he opened his own store and was reunited with old friend Joe Vasapollo and both got deeply involved in building and selling models.

Nick says he loves to paint, and it shows on his finished projects which favor lowriders, muscle cars, and pro street. "Most of my projects start with a wild or multi-color paint scheme." And he's no rookie when it comes to body modifications. Nick can slap putty with the best of them.

One thing he misses is those old 3 in 1 kits and all those extra parts. Hey, who doesn't? Nick feels that as the manufacturers struggle to survive, modelers need to turn to aftermarket companies and resin casters to enhance those kits on the dealers' shelves and already in our (overstuffed) closets.

Nick enjoys the monthly meetings and sharing conversation and tips with other builders. Nick, and Joe, spend a lot of time at area model kit shows. selling builtups as well as unbuilt kits and aftermarket parts. It is there that he also gets a chance to talk to even more builders. And Nick has won his share of trophies, but having a model (four so far) that you built photographed for a national publication is the ultimate thrill, he says.

"I love building and creating eye-catching cars and trucks", and he doesn't intend to stop. Nick and his son are currently restoring a pair of Mustang LX's, only they are the real thing. But his model building has only slowed a little. We always look forward to "what's new" from Nick and enjoy his company each month.
